WELCOME FRESHERS

Freshers 2020, it is so exciting to finally meet you! Firstly, congratulations, you’re at Royal Holloway, how exciting?! We know you are starting your university experience in a time like no other, however The Student Workshop are here to give you a little bit of normality by offering creative opportunities all year round to keep your theatrical brains ticking over. Not only are we here to boost your creative opportunities, but we will be offering social opportunities all year round as well, no matter what the world continues to throw at us, we are here to ensure you still have the most memorable and exciting time here at Royal Holloway as a Drama Student.

WHO ARE WE?

So Firstly, who are we? The Student Workshop Is a production company affiliated with the Drama Department here at Royal Holloway. We are run by a committee of Students reflecting the workings of a professional company. We offer 3 shows every term, which are created by students in a professional working atmosphere, with the help of our incredible tech team. We also offer a very unique showcase every term in our beautiful Boiler House Theatre called ‘Midnight at the Boiler House’ where students can submit short original pieces, which can be self-performed or performed by other students. It really is one of the most exciting nights of the term and we can’t wait for you to be involved!

What is happening in Freshers week? Well, we are making sure Freshers week is 100% full of fun, exciting and beneficial events for you despite the current circumstances. We will be in the Drama Department every day of the week offering workshops, talks and more!

Monday 21st- Our first event will be a welcome talk with the Student Workshop committee who will introduce themselves, their roles and what there is to look forward to in the coming year as well as why you guys should get involved. There are only 30 tickets avaiable fro each talk so book quickly !!

Tuesday 22nd- On this day we are running some amazing workshops such as a Research and Development workshop in the CCT and a Monologues and Duologues workshop taking place in RS1 and RS2. You can get involved either by booking your place and coming down into the department or by joining via Microsoft teams. Again our capacity is limited therefore, there are only 30 spaces in our Research and Development slots and 30 for our monolouges and duologues slots where you will be split into groups of 15.

Wednesday 23rd- On this day there will be a screening online of past work over the last few years of the Student Workshop. Fun Fact: the Student Workshop are a 40 year old company therefore there will be plenty of perforamces for you to take a look at. 

 

 

Thursday 24th- We are hosting another day filled with workshops. This time there will be a movement based workshop in the Boilerhouse with a limited number of 20 students per session. As well as this there will also be an improvisation workshop being hosted in RS1 and RS2 which once again has a limited capacity of 20 to each session.

Friday 25th- On this day we would love to invite participants from the week back in order to showcase the work that has been created within the workshops, and we shall be inviting our own show teams to come and speak about their productions this term that any fresher can audition for and other events that will be happening in the year to come.
